How Cooling Pads Work

December 18, 2023

Pad cooling systems utilize the cooling effect created by water evaporating in warm outside air. Incoming air passes through a plastic cooling pad that is wetted and mounted in front of the air intake. A pipe above the cooling pad distributes the water flow evenly so that the entire surface area of the cooling pad is wetted. As the water passes through the cooling pad, it partially evaporates. During this evaporation, heat is extracted from the air, thus lowering the temperature. At the bottom of the pad, the water is collected in a chute and circulated for reuse.

A unique feature of plastic evaporation pad cooling is the controllable cooling capacity. By varying water flow, cooling will be accurately regulated to suit the animal’s needs and prevent temperature fluctuations. This gives a much greater advantage over existing pad cooling systems that only offer or regulate control.

Long-term operational work
All component parts are made of UV resistant PVC or stainless steel. High-pressure cleaners can be used to simply spray the synthetic cooling pads. Regular cleaning with a water gun prevents algae growth, enhances hygiene and ensures that soiling does not reduce the cooling capacity of the pads. Our plastic pads are five times more durable than conventional paper cooling pads.

The Evaporative Cooling Pad System is used in systems that require efficient cooling. It can be used for a number of different cooling purposes, but is particularly suitable for evaporative cooling in poultry houses.
