Why use a calf house

In order to improve calf health and ensure good growth of calves before weaning, calf sheds have been used successfully for many years around the world.
Before weaning, a calf’s immune system is not well developed enough to fight off infectious agents. Therefore, pre-weaning calves are most susceptible to pathogenic microorganisms, and pre-weaning incidence is usually high. Isolated calves have a reduced risk of transmitting pathogens, which is a generally accepted management approach. Separating calves from calves improves health, reduces morbidity and mortality, and has no effect on behavior and later productivity.
Many studies have shown that the reduction in morbidity and mortality associated with the barn is mainly due to the fact that the barn isolates the calves and reduces the risk of pathogens in the calves. In addition, well-designed calves provide good natural ventilation, which can reduce the incidence of respiratory diseases.
A calf house can provide a separate environment for calves and is an important form of calf rearing before weaning.
